Media pluralism demands sound parenting - Brigade

Accra, July 4, GNA - Mr Benjamin Nii Kpani Addy, Chairman of the Boys Brigade, Ghana, at the weekend called on all Christians to be firm in the training of their children in this era of media pluralism. He said the introduction of media pluralism have had negative effect on children especially boys, and it was necessary to realise its implications and find ways to reverse this situation.

Mr Addy was speaking at the opening of the 28th Regional Officers' Delegates conference of the Boys Brigade Ghana, under the theme, "Let us Rise up and Build the Boys Brigade in the era of Media Pluralism," in Accra. Mr Addy noted that the Boys' Brigade had lost its vibrant and powerful image because most children spend most of their time behind their televisions and radio sets, having no time for religious activities. He said it was very important to rebuild the brigade to regain its image as the leading Christian youth organisation in the country by planning and executing programs that would deal with these challenges. "The planning, packaging, and execution of programs should be very tight and close in order to prevent the boys from concentrating on their televisions and radio sets," he said.

Mr Addy urged the officers to be united and work as a team and take the activities of the Brigade very seriously, adding that, they should send the message back to their various branches to help build their churches. Mr Seth Acquaye, Regional Chairman of the of the Boys Brigade Ghana, said although today's era of media pluralism has thrown into their faces a very daunting challenge of bringing the boys together, the officers must try as much as possible to stand firm in achieving this goal.

He said the administrative and operational structure of the Brigade against its main pillars needed to be critically examined, adding that, religion and discipline also played a vital role in rebuilding the Brigade. "Religion cannot de divorced from discipline since they work together to build the individual spiritually and morally," he noted.

Mr Acquaye urged the officers to play their roles diligently, be generous with their praises and be miserly with their criticism of each other for the betterment of the Brigade and the Christian community. 04 July 10
