Anomatoa (B/A) March 3, GNA - Mr. James Kwabena Osei, Assembly Member for Forikrom Electoral Area in Techiman Municipality has cautioned that the government or the Assembly could not provide the people with their needs if they failed to honour their tax obligations. He said the cry for social amenities should not be the concern of the government alone but that of all and sundry.
Mr. Osei was addressing the chiefs and people of Anomatoa and Boankrom in the electoral area at a forum to explain the Assembly's budget and fee fixing resolution adopted by the Assembly this year. He stated that the Assembly could do its best if the people contributed their quota towards national development, saying the Assembly derived part of its revenue from the common fund through the payment of basic and property rates.
The Assembly Member asked the youth to desist from illicit sexual practices and alcoholism and engage in viable economic ventures to make life worthwhile for them.
Mr. Osei urged those who had not registered for the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to do so to enjoy its benefits. Mr. Amankwaah Ayiso, a prominent farmer at Anomatoa and a citizen of Forikrom appealed to the Municipal Assembly to check the illegal extortion of foodstuffs from farmers by middlemen and women. He complained that the middlemen and women often cheated the farmers who lost the market price for their produce, which included maize, yam, cassava and plantain. March 03 06
