Mr Bhagwan Khubchandani, Chairman, Melcom Group of Companies, has been honoured by the Governing Council of the Northern Youth for Peace and Development (NYUPED), in recognition of his dedicated and enormous service towards development.
The Melcom Chairman was unanimously nominated as awardees in the Third NYUPED National Achievers Award held under the theme: “Honouring society’s great benefactors, NYUPED’s platform for national recognition”.
Mr Prince Hardi Adams, Executive Director for NYUPED, speaking at the function in Accra, said the Chairman was being honoured for his company’s effort to build and improve educational infrastructure and provide jobs for the unemployed in the three Northern Regions.
Mr Adams, who read a citation and presented the award on behalf of the NYUPED, said the pressure group initiated this scheme three years ago to honour benevolent individuals, who are committed to their development.
The Executive Director said “Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, President John Dramani Mahama, Nana Akuffo Addo, New Patriotic Party Flagbearer; Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene; Tutumbe Boresa Sulemana Jakpa II, Overlord of Gonja Traditional Kingdom and Madam Ruby Sandhu-Rojon, UNDP Country Representative;” were among the personalities who have been honoured.
Mr Khubchandani, accompanied by his wife and other Directors of the company, received the award and expressed appreciation to the group for the honour.
He said the company would soon set up a sizeable shop to serve the various communities within the northern regions.
Under the leadership of Mr Khubchandani, the Melcom Care Foundation, which has become known as Melcom Care, was established to manage humanitarian initiatives of the Group.
Melcom Care, within the last two years, had made some donations, which include an ambulance for emergencies, medical support for the needy, water dispensers and purifiers, mobility aides like crutches and wheelchairs for patients in five hospitals.
