Men urged to be responsible

Cape Coast, March 25, GNA - Miss. Mary Koomson, a senior staff midwife at the Central Regional Hospital in Cape Coast, has appealed to men to pay maternity bills of their wives after delivery. Miss. Koomson told the GNA in an interview that most often mothers had to be detained for long periods in the hospital because they do not have money to pay for their bills.

"It saddens me to see women admitted at the hospital and no sign of a father visiting, not even to check on the state of health of the mother and child. All that one sees is the mothers and sometimes siblings."

Miss. Koomson said 17 children, made up of 6 girls and 11 boys were delivered between Good Friday and Easter Monday at the Central Regional Hospital. The number included to a set of twins. The Cape Coast District Hospital recorded 16 births between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
