Mensahkrom appeals for new school block

Mensahkrom (Ash), Jan 23, GNA - The people of Mensahkrom in the Adansi North district have appealed to the district assembly for the construction of a new school block to replace the dilapidated one. Mr Paul Agyei, a spokesman of the community made the appeal when he conducted officials of the assembly round the school during a visit to the area by the District Chief Executive, Me Peter K. Ameyaw. He said apart from the poor nature of the school building, lack of teachers was also a source of worry to the development of education in the community. "Lack of teachers is affecting the education of the children in the communities in this area", Mr Agyei said. He said the school had 175 pupils but because of lack of teachers, primary two and three had been combined so also primary five and six.

Addressing the people later, the DCE gave the assurance that the assembly would endeavour to put up new classroom block to replace the old block, which was not promoting effective teaching and learning. Mr Ameyaw appealed to parents to take good care of their wards and children and to ensure that they were properly fed to help in their mental development.

He said the assembly was much focused on the promotion of basic education in the new district especially in the improvement of physical infrastructure and other school facilities. The DCE called on all stakeholders to support the assembly to improve education i n the district since the present performance was not encouraging.

Mr Ameyaw used the visit to appeal to cocoa farmers in the area who have still not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to do so once they had entered the cocoa season. "I want to advise cocoa farmers in Mensahkrom and Awona area to use the cocoa season to register with the NHIS and also pay up their premiums", Mr Ameyaw emphasised.
