Methodist Bishop of Accra dedicate school block

Accra, Sept 13, GNA - The Methodist Bishop of Accra, the Right Reverend Samuel Kwame Hodasi on Saturday dedicated a five-classroom block valued at 250 million cedis on the premises of the Rev. J. C. Memorial Methodist Society at Tunga in Dansoman. At the same a ceremony, Rev. Hodasi also cut the sod for the commencement of the Society's manse, (a mission house) valued at 450 million cedis, which begins this year, to house the Minister in-charge of the society (branch). The school block was financed by members of the society to accommodate the pupils of the Rev J. C. Mensah Memorial Methodist Nursery School that started as a Sunday school for the children service in 1996. The school formally started in September last year with 12 children. The Reverend Emmanuel K. Churcher, Minister in-charge of the Society (branch) said the establishment of the nursery re-emphasizes the Church's obligation of fully serving both spiritual and socio-economic needs of the communities. He said, "It has been the habit of the Methodist Church, which established the first-ever school in Ghana, Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast, to establish a school wherever it establishes a church, so we can help bring up the Kofi Annans and Ibn Chambases". Mrs Felicia Adofo, who represented Mrs Rose Ankrah, Accra Metropolitan Director of Education commended the Church in its efforts at training Ghanaian children who grow up to help build Ghana. Mrs Adofo said since children are special gifts from God, it was important that they are properly trained in the fear of God and given the best academic training to bring out the best in them. She expressed the hope that the children at the newly established nursery would benefit from the disciplined and quality education being offered by the Methodist church. Madam Gladys Odoi, Lay-Chairman, Accra Diocese of the Church urged parents to always pronounce "positive and encouraging words" into the lives of their children as they grow since that helps in shaping up their future lifestyles. Mrs Peace Sabblah, Headmistress of the School commended the church members for their immense financial support in the establishment of the school and pledged the teachers' determination in bringing out the best in the pupils. 13 Sept, 03
