Minister appeals to churches to pray for peaceful election

Sunyani, Sept 22, GNA - Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Brong- Ahafo Regional Minister, has urged members of religious bodies to continue to pray for the nation to elect a leader on December 07 who will seek peace.

He said the nation needs a leadership that would manage the country's resources well to satisfy the people so they could also contribute meaningfully to the nation's development. The Regional Minister was addressing the congregation at a special farewell service in honour of Prophet James Osei Amaniampong of the Sunyani Area branch of Church of Pentecost who is on transfer to Dansoman in Accra after a five-year stay.

"Let us not allow politicians to use us to achieve their parochial interests because no single politician can solve all our problems", Mr. Baffour Awuah said.

"It is our responsibility to plead to God to ensure that the rightful person will be chosen on December 7 and we plead that politicians would be tolerant with one another's views or opinions since there is no use engaging in violence to gain a position". He commended the Church of Pentecost for being development-oriented, citing its establishment of a university and urged parents to take advantage of the numerous educational institutions and government interventions to educate their children to appreciable levels. In a sermon Apostle Abraham Lincoln Angoh, head of Dunkwa Area branch of the church, advised Christians to lead exemplary lives that would be acceptable to God, cautioning that it was not easy to be a Christian.

He reiterated the need for Ghanaians to keep on praying to God to choose the right leader since He would not accept "someone who will disrupt the peace". Prophet Amaniampong urged members of the church to practice what had been taught them by the Scriptures so God could enlighten their hearts. He advised members of the Church to exercise their franchise on December 7 so that the right leadership would be chosen to manage the country's resources well with good policies for the benefit of all Ghanaians. 22 Sept 08
