Minister assesses damaged school in Upper East

Bolgatanga, Sept. 17, GNA - Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Education, Science and Sports, on Monday reaffirmed government's preparedness to rehabilitate schools in the Upper East Region that were destroyed by the recent floods.

Speaking during a call on the Regional Minister, Mr. Alhassan Samari, Professor Fobih said he and his team were in the region to assess the extent of damage caused to schools.

He said the tour would take them to Builsa, Kassena-Nankana and Garu-Tempane districts where school buildings suffered the most damage. "We are particularly interested in seeing the impact of the disaster on the implementation of the new education reforms," he said. He gave the assurance that everything was being done by the ministry to ensure that children in the affected areas enjoyed the same school life as their counterparts in other parts of the country. The Regional Minister had earlier briefed Prof Fobih and his team on the floods, highlighting how the situation had affected the agriculture, health, education, commerce and other activities in the region.

Mr. Samari said most senior high schools in the region needed additional infrastructure such as good libraries and laboratory facilities and appealed to Prof Fobih to assist the schools.
