Juabeso (W/R), Feb.10, GNA - Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of Education, Science and Sports, on Thursday cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of a classroom block at the Juabeso Senior Secondary School.
In a speech, he said the school has been earmarked for upgrading and urged the staff and students of the school to co-operate with the government to put in place the needed infrastructure. Papa Ankomah who was on a three-day tour of the Western Region, asked communities and parents to get involved in the management of schools.
He said this would ensure that teachers provide quality education while communities take the schools as their own and complement government's efforts.
Papa Ankomah urged parents to take responsibility for the education of their children, adding that disciplining of children is also a parental responsibility.
He commended the Juabeso District Assembly for committing 70 per cent of its financial resources to the promotion of education. Mr Kwame Taylor, Headmaster of the school, expressed the hope that the school, which is currently a day institution, would be permitted to operate a border system after it has been upgraded. He said the Parent-Teacher Association of the school had constructed hostel facilities for the students to alleviate the plight of students who do not stay in the area. 10 Feb. 07
