Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, has directed the Works Engineer at the Agotime-Ziope District to carry out reengineering works on the premises of the District Police Station to prevent flooding.
The Minister also directed that same works be carried out at the District Court premises and the community market.
The directives followed a recent heavy downpour, which flooded the places, preventing officers of the police station and the court from carrying out their responsibilities.
It also affected the economic activities of traders at the local market.
Dr Letsa who paid a fact finding visit to the affected areas and to commiserate with the people, said his outfit was putting necessary pragmatic measures in place to ensure effective disaster control and management in the Region.
The Minister, who is also the chairman of the Regional Disaster Management Committee, said disaster mitigation required a collective effort from all and therefore called on the people to desist from acts that could lead to disaster.
Mr Divine Bosson, Director, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Volta Region, advised the people to organize periodic communal labour in the market to clear choked gutters for free flow of rain water.
Mr David Dickson Dzorkpe, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the Assembly was working in collaboration with the District NADMO office to activate early warning systems to prevent and mitigate impacts of disaster.
He however said the Assembly lacked adequate equipment for disaster management and appealed to the Minister for support.
