Minister kicks against political campaigns in schools

Mr. Abdallah Abubakari Mr. Abdallah Abubakari

Mr. Abdallah Abubakari, Northern Regional Minister, has appealed to authorities of educational institutions not to use their facilities to promote their personal political agenda.

He said doing so at the educational institutions is unprofessional and could divert attention from real academic exercise, which is necessary to improve education outcome in the region.

Mr. Abubakari made the appeal in Tamale when presenting 20 buses and eight pick-up vehicles to authorities of Colleges of Education and selected senior high schools in the region to facilitate their activities.

The vehicles formed part of the 500 buses recently donated by President John Mahama to educational institutions across the country.

He said the practice by authorities of educational institutions using their platforms to promote their political agenda is gaining grounds in the region saying he recently counselled a school head, who engaged in such an act.

He said even though everybody has a favourite political party, there is a need for school authorities to avoid using their platforms to promote their political agenda to ensure sanity in the schools.

Mr. Abubakari spoke about the presentation of the vehicles saying the government is committed to changing lives and transforming the country by resourcing institutions to deliver results to the people.

He called on beneficiary institutions to undertake regular maintenance of the vehicles to prolong their lifespan.

Alhaji Mohammed Haroun, Regional Director of Education, who received the keys of the vehicles and distributed them amongst heads of beneficiary schools, thanked the government for the support saying it would help to improve education outcome.

Alhaji Haroun advised the beneficiary institutions not to turn the vehicles into “funerals buses”.
