Modern Market Complex for Winneba Junction to start soon

Winneba, (C/R) March 3, GNA - The construction of an ultra-modern market complex with a lorry park, valued at GHC500,000, would begin before December, at the Winneba Junction. Mr Mike Hammah, MP for the area and Minister for Transport, who initiated the project, announced this at a stakeholders' forum at Winneba Junction.

The Municipal Assembly, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and some investors would jointly undertake the project. Mr Hammah expressed the hope that the facility would end the rampant knocking down and killing of traders who sell along the road. The forum was attended by traditional leaders, assembly members, bankers, businessmen and women from the area.

The Minister said the vision of President John Atta Mills was to develop the country to become a better place to live, adding that, the government would distribute the national cake fairly to every corner of the country. Mr Kofi S. Antir, a representative from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, appealed to investors to support projects, like markets, that could help in the reduction of poverty.

He said his outfit was consulting with a number of local and foreign investors to invest in the project. Mrs Gizede Tetteh Aboton, the consultant of the project, took the participants through the drawings of the project. She said the three-storey block project would cover an 8,000 square feet area, and have a library, Police Post, nursery, ware house, clinic, banks, cold stores, super markets, shops and chop bars. During open forum, most people suggested that those currently selling at the place should be given priority in the sharing of the shops. They also recommended that traders who would be affected by the construction phase should be relocated before the start of the project to save them from going out of business.
