Mormons present 14 wheelchairs to disabled

Ajumako (C/R), Oct. 3, GNA - The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints-Ghana has initiated programme to provide 500 disabled persons in the Central and Eastern regions with wheelchairs. Elder J. Steve Thompson, Country Director, Humanitarian Service of the church made this known to the Ghana News Agency, when he presented 14 wheel chairs to the District Chief Executive of Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District at Ajumako.

Elder Thompson, who was accompanied by Sister Sharon L. Thompson, said it was the moral and humanitarian obligation of the church to support the needy and the handicapped, hence the free supply of the wheelchairs and other items.

He said eight towns had been served. They are Cape Coast, Yamoransa, Ajumako, Winneba, Agona Swedru, Apam, Elmina and the Mfantseman District.

According to him, Twifo Praso and Dunkwa on Offin would soon have their turn, adding that, from the Central Region they would move to the Eastern Region.

Mr Kenneth Obimpong, the District Chief Executive for the area, who received the wheelchairs on behalf of the disabled, thanked the donors for their kind gesture.
