Muslim women form association to enhance women's rights

Goaso (B/A), Aug 7, GNA- Asunafo District Chapter of the Federation of Moslem Women's Association in Brong Ahafo, was inaugurated at Goaso on Wednesday with a call on members to take part in matters that affect women.

Nana Abena Adutwumwaa, Queenmother of Goaso who made the call, appealed to women to assume responsible positions and work to project themselves.

Alhaji Ishak Abubakar Bonsu, Imam of Akrodie, who is also the District Co-ordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), deplored child labour, which according to him, was increasing in Zongo communities in the district. He, therefore, advised Muslim women to send their children to school.

Alhaji Bonsu called for cleanliness in the communities to avoid filth-oriented diseases.

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary of the Association, Habiba Abdulai, said the association would provide a platform for Moslem women to campaign for equality with their male counterparts. Mariama Yousif, President of the Asunafo District branch of the association, said the Chapter has acquired a 12-hectare land that would be developed into an education complex to improve children's access to secular education.
