The National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO),has attributed the recent downpour which flooded and caused damage to lives and property in certain parts of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis to human behaviour.

The organisation is therefore set to deepen the awareness through the MMDAs and the Information Services Department (ISD) to forestall any hazards.

Deputy Western Regional Director of NADMO, Mr.Bright Adjei who disclosed this to the GNA in an interview bemoaned that many of the residents continued to deposit solid waste and huge refuse scattered around the environment, leading to choked gutters and giving way to flooding.

He entreated residents in the Twin-City to adopt Sound Environmental Practices such as desilting choked gutters, ensure good drainage system and avoid building on flood prone areas.

Mr. Adjei lamented that the recent downpour brought some damage with special reference to the Ngyeresia fishing community, where it claimed six lives.

He added that the Effia community also got flooded among other areas like Ntankorful.

Mr Adjei appealed to people who build on waterways and unapproved areas to desist from the practice and lauded the effort of the government for the quantum of relief items received so far. He said due to the spate of disasters in recent times, the stock was depleting and appealed to NGOs and other donor agencies, corporate entities to support the organisation.
