Twifo Praso (C/R), Feb. 23, GNA - The Twifo-Hemang-Lower Denkyira District branch of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Tuesday completed a one-month educational tour of communities in the district.
Topics discussed during the tour included Disaster Management, National Health Insurance Scheme and the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Some of the communities visited were Nuamakrom, Jukwa, Wawase, Praso, Paaso, Hemang and Anyinaso.
Speaking at a forum to round off the tour at Wawase, Mr Prince Arhin, the district NADMO co-ordinator, appealed to people in the district to seek technical advice, when putting up buildings to ensure they were well constructed to protect them against disasters like rainstorms. He pointed out that this was imperative, since relief items given to disaster victims, are not enough to make up for items destroyed during disasters.
He advised them to handle fire with care, and to endeavour to report promptly, fire outbreaks to NADMO volunteers and to the nearest fire station, Stressing that, the services of both organisations were free. Mr Arhin commended the government for initiating the National Health Insurance Scheme and advised the communities to register to enable them get quality health care.
He expressed concern about the rapid spread of the HIV/AIDS disease, and echoed calls on married couples to be faithful to their partners and for the youth to abstain from pre-marital sex to avoid contracting the disease.
