Sekondi, Feb. 12, GNA- The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Office of The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has formed Community Disaster Volunteer Clubs in eight communities. Mr. Alex Adu-Boahen, Metropolitan Coordinator of NADMO, announced this when he presented the Beposo Community Disaster Volunteer Club at Beposo on Thursday.
He said the remaining seven clubs were at Anto, Sofokrom, Supomu-Dunkwa, Essikadu, Old Daboase, New Daboase Junction and Ohia Ma-Awen.
Mr. Adu-Boahen said the clubs are to assist in the education of communities in disaster prevention techniques and to mobilise communities in event of outbreak of disasters.
He said the NADMO has supplied the clubs with agricultural inputs such as seedlings, cutlasses and Wellington boots free of charge to establish farms to earn income for the members and to keep the clubs active.
The items presented to the Beposo Community Disaster Volunteer Club include 20 pair of Wellington boots, 20 cutlasses and a quantity of NADMO T-Shirts.
NADMO presents relief items to fire victims
Fawomanye (W/R), Feb. 12, GNA- Mr. Alex Adu-Boahen, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has advised the public to report electrical faults to professional electricians or the Electricity Company of Ghana to avoid disasters.He gave the advice when presenting relief items to four fire victims at Anaji near Takoradi and Fawomanye near Sekondi on Thursday. Mr. Adu-Boahen urged the public to also handle live fire carefully to prevent fire outbreaks.
He said the victims lost all their property in the fire outbreak in their homes early this year and what the NADMO was giving them was to assist them to find their feet.
Items given to the victims included 20 pieces of mattresses, 20 plastic buckets, plates and cups.
