NADMO to plant one million two hundred trees in Ashanti

Kuntanase (Ash), May 12, GNA- The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) would in June this year distribute a total of about 1200 different species of seedlings to disaster prone areas in the region.

Mr S.M.A. Rahman, Deputy Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO in-charge of administration, who announced this, said the programme was to check the destruction of property and buildings during storms. Speaking at a training workshop for zonal staff of NADMO and disaster volunteer groups at Kuntanase on Tuesday, he said the seedlings would be distributed to 10 districts, which were taking part in the afforestation programme.

The participants were taken through disaster management, disaster assessment, types of disasters in the communities and remedies for the various disasters.

He cautioned communities along Lake Bosomtwe to stop polluting and destroying the vegetation along its banks.

Mr Daniel Asuo-Afram, the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Co-ordinator of NADMO, lauded the district assembly for the regular support it had been giving the organisation in times of need.
