NCCE is not a political organisation -Director

Pokuase (Ash), Dec 19, GNA - Mr Isaac Gyimah, the Ahafo-Ano South District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has asked people to discard the notion that the commission was a political organisation.

He said the commission was established as a constitutional requirement under the 1992 Constitution to educate Ghanaians on their civic rights and responsibilities.

Mr Gyimah said the personnel who were non-partisan, fair-minded and were discharging their duties under difficult conditions should be encouraged to work harder.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a civic education club for the Pokuase Local authority Junior Secondary School (JSS) on Tuesday. He asked the public to discard the erroneous impression about the commission since that could create a lot of problems for personnel in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Gyimah said civic education clubs had been formed at Wioso, Adugyama, Pokukrom, Asuodei, Essienkyem and Kunsu and called on members of the clubs to step up their campaign at educating the people to be patriotic and undertake communal labour.

He commended the unit committee, Parent-Teacher Association and the community for embracing the formation of the club and urged them to adopt environmentally hygienic practices so as to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
