NDC Chairman installed Chief of New Dormaa

The Akyempem Division of Dormaa Traditional Council, on Monday installed Nana Yaw Boampong 48, Vice Chairman of Sunyani East Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Chief of New-Dormaa in the Sunyani Municipality, under the stool name Barima Boampong,

Barima Boampong, 48, succeeded his uncle who died last year after a short illness.

He owes allegiance to the Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, through the Akyempem Division of Dormaa-Ahenkro headed by Barima Tabiri Kumi Acheaw, Chief of Akontanim.

Addressing a colourful durbar at New-Dormaa, Barima Acheaw said the installation of the new chief was in fulfilment of the long and cherished tradition of the people of New-Dormaa.

Barima Boampong would be formally introduced to the Dormaa Traditional Council.

Nana Boampong expressed appreciation for the honour done him and said girls’ education would be his priority agenda, adding that he would set up an Education Fund to support the youth in the area.

Nana Boampong called for unity among the people because with cooperation the area would witness rapid development.

New-Dormaa in Sunyani is predominantly made up of people from ethnic groups from the northern part of the country and has four electoral areas.
