Nkotumso (C/R), May 11, GNA-A Kumasi-based non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Health Care Developers of Ghana (NDG), has expressed its readiness to support all health programmes aimed at improving health care delivery in the rural communities.
The President of the NDG, the Reverend Justice Appiah gave the assurance when the group donated assorted medical items worth more than 16 million cedis to a community health centre at Nkotumso, near Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Upper Denkyira district at the weekend. The items include three wheelchairs, 10 clutches, two drip stands, mattresses and one medical diagnostic chair. Rev Appiah said the donation formed part of efforts of the NGO to assist health centres to improve their services. He called on government to support NGOs working to promote health care in the rural communities.
Rev Appiah commended the authorities for introducing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) that sought to facilitate health care delivery in the country and urged the people to register with the scheme.
Mr John Nsowaah, the medical assistant at the Health Centre, praised the NGO for the donation.
Nana Afrifa Yamoah Ponko II, the Nkasawurahene of the Dunkwa Traditional Area, also commended the NGO for the gesture and appealed to other organisations to assist health institutions since the government alone could not shoulder the cost of health care delivery in the country.
