Techiman, Sept 03, GNA - Rural Action 2000, a Kintampo-based non-governmental organisation, has organized a three-day workshop on commercial mushroom production at Techiman for 40 participants from the Kintampo District.
Mrs Gladys Abena Nsowaa, the Executive Director of the NGO, said the objective of training the youth was part of an HIV/AIDS campaign the organization had embarked on.
''Since Kintampo is a transit point for long distance travellers, it is essential to resource and train the youth to become economically independent in order to steer them away from the sex trade.'' The Executive Director said 45 million cedis would be disbursed to the groups to undertake the project.
Mr Bernard Bempah, Managing Director of Bempah Mushroom Complex, said a team of mushroom experts from USA would visit the Bempah Mushroom Complex this year to study activities of the NGO and help improve the technology used in the cultivation of mushroom.
Mr J. K. Bomfeh, Kintampo District Chief Executive, told the trainees that the assembly would support them.
