NGO supports school block project

Zabogo (U/E), May 17, GNA - A three-classroom block project initiated by the chiefs and people of Zabogo in the Bawku Municipality, has been commissioned.

Harmattan Foundation (HF), a Holland-based non- governmental organisation (NGO), supported the project with building materials while the beneficiary community providing labour.

In addition, HF had provided furniture and uniforms for 135 pupils and three bicycles for volunteer teachers at the school. Another three-classroom block with a store and a headmaster's office will be constructed to complete the primary school block, while the teachers, would be paid by HF for the next two years. Commissioning the block, the acting Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Gumah, reaffirmed government's commitment to cooperate with development partners to develop the educational sector. He said for the nation to have quality human resources for its development, there was the need to educate children to assume leadership roles in future.

Mr Gumah said the assembly had put in place incentive packages to encourage teachers to accept postings to the rural areas to improve effective teaching and learning. The Municipal Education Director, Madam Florence Pobi commended the NGO for supporting the establishment of the school and gave the assurance that qualified teachers would be posted to ensure quality education. The Executive Director for HF, Mr Henry Cookoo said humanity should strive to offer opportunities to the youth to develop their potentials for the total development of society.
