NPP MP commends AMA Chief Executive

Mr Joe Appiah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, has commended Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive for his commitment to providing the Ablekuma North Constituency with Millennium City Schools.

Mr Appiah made the commendation when he and the AMA Chief Executive jointly performed the ground breaking ceremony for the commencement of work on the second Millennium School project at Odorkor in his constituency.

He said: “I have confidence in the Accra Mayor who is delivering,” and asked the people not to be deceived by the propaganda against the Mayor of not performing to expectation.

Mr Appiah urged the citizens to focus on things that would move the nation forward.

“We should be mindful of the fact that politics is not about division and enmity, and as much as one do not agree with each other does not give those who hold contrary views to insult and fight,” he said.

The MP said education of the children was crucial to the nation’s development which would go a long way to impact on the lives of the people, hence the need to applaud the MCE for his educational infrastructure initiative.

Dr Vanderpuije said it had been the vision of the President John Mahama that social services should be a policy to improve the lives of the people as well as a long term investment that should benefit the citizenry.

The Mayor drew the attention of parents to the importance of education in the development of the nation and urged them to send their children to school for the benefit of the country.

Dr Vanderpuije said government commitment towards the total welfare of the Ghanaian child, it was imperative for stakeholders to also champion the cause in quality education for the children to enable them to become useful to society in future.

“We must supervise by ourselves the content of education our children get from their schools in order for them to come out with academic excellence,” he said.

Mrs Angela Tina Mensah, Metro Director of Education of the Ghana Education Service, said quality teaching was not the responsibility of teachers alone but parents and the community have a role to play.

She promised to ensure an effective maintenance culture, to protect the building when completed, adding that: “I am convinced that when this new building is completed it would open an opportunity for teachers and the school children to perform better.”

Mrs Mensah called on parents not to shirk their responsibilities towards their children’s education.
