Tamale, June 25, GNA - The Northern Regional Library in partnership with Hats Community Empowerment Programme, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), is providing free ICT training to 200 youth to expand their socio- economic opportunities under the Internet Access and Training Programme. The Library had received 25 computers with internet connectivity from the NGO with funding from the Information for Libraries Network (elFL.net), an ICT firm. Mr Aaron Kuwornu, Northern Regional Librarian, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale on Thursday. He said the programme is targeting vulnerable people who had completed school and are idle.
Mr Kuwornu said the programme is being piloted in the region and the success story would be replicated in other parts of the country. He said the goal of the programme is to develop a core of young technology pioneers with the practical skills to improve upon the quality of education and expand peer influence and cross-cultural networks among the youth. In a related development, the Regional Library had acquired five computers to under take the Mobile Library Service which is being run nationwide by the Ghana Library Board. The Mobile Library Service is expected to provide free ICT training services to deprived communities through a mobile van.
