NUGS expresses appreciation for government's support

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has commended the government under the leadership of the late President John Evans Atta Mills and his successor, President John Dramani Mahama for extending immense support to the students’ front.

A statement signed by Naziru Iddriss, Coordinating Secretary of NUGS, and made available to the GNA on Friday said it was thankful to government for honouring a promise made in 2008 by then candidate John Evan Atta Mills to provide office accommodation to NUGS, which had been the Union's long-standing challenge.

Mr. Iddriss noted that NUGS was most delighted when the government through the Ministry of Education, headed by Mr Lee Ocran, provided the Union with a brand new 4x4 Ford Ranger vehicle and temporary office accommodation.

He said while awaiting permanent office accommodation, NUGS was lauding the government for its support to the Union and also Mr Lee Ocran for the effective and fatherly role he played in facilitating the fulfillment of the promise.

“The Union wishes him the best in his endeavour and prays that he gets a befitting appointment to continue his dedicated service to Mother Ghana”, said Mr. Iddriss.

The Union also congratulated Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agymang, Minister-designate for Education on her new appointment.

“We have recognised her contribution to the development of education in our dear nation and we are with high optimism that her administration at the Ministry of Education will continue to strengthen the relationship between the Ministry and the Union." yte

It extended congratulations to the other new appointees, saying “We wish them all the best as they prepare for the vetting and we pray that their services will go a long way to help not just the development of today’s generation but also the generations yet to come”.
