NYEP presents sewing machines to 120 youths in Tema

Tema, July 20, GNA-One Hundred and Twenty persons in the Tema Metropolis who trained in the Youth in Trade and Vocations Module, under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), have been given sewing machines.

The beneficiaries, including five males, selected from the three constituencies within the Metropolis, namely, Tema West, Kpone-Katamanso and Tema East, underwent a six-month training in Dress-making at the old Ghana Textile Manufacturing Company building in Tema.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the forecourt of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Henry Davidson Ayeh, Tema East Co-ordinator of the NYEP, said the government had invested so much in the programme to help reduce rural-urban migration in the country.

Mr Ayeh, therefore, advised the youths in the Metropolis to avail themselves of the opportunities of the programme so that with the acquisition of employable skills, they could become self-reliant.

He urged them to put the acquired knowledge and skills at the disposal of the unemployed youths within their various communities, to help reduce social vices in the Metropolis.

Mr Ayeh intimated that the training programme was the first of its kind to be organized by his outfit for the unemployed Youth in the Metropolis, and that the second would take off at the end of July.

The beneficiaries thanked the government for the opportunity, and pledged to give off their best.
