Nalerigu, (N/R), Oct. 1, GNA - The Baptist Hospital in Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District recorded 91 HIV/AIDS cases between January and May this year, with 77 of the infected persons aged between 20 and 39 years.
Madam Victoria Aboyala, Public Health Nurse at the hospital, said this during an HIV/AIDS campaign organised by Hairdressers and Barbers Association at Nalerigu on Monday.
The rally, which was sponsored by the Ghana AIDS Commission, was to create awareness and to sensitise the people about the prevalence of the disease in the district.
Mad Aboyala said the people in the area had not changed their sexual behaviour despite the awareness created by organizations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS and called for effective measures to check the spread of the disease in the district.
Madam Aboyala advised parents to take full control over their children saying that the youth who form the productive group of the nation are getting infected with the disease in alarming proportions.
Mr Yarifa Inusah, the District Focal Person on HIV/AIDS, called on HIV/AIDS campaigners to organize house-to-house campaigns to educate the people on the dangers of the disease.
He called on the people to show compassion to people living with the disease and advised them to avoid casual sex and remain faithful to their partners
