National Service personnel to hit streets on Friday

Outgoing national service personnel have served notice they will embark upon a protest march on Friday, October 3.

According to the personnel, a petition sent to the National Security Council Secretariat for an extension of a directive that required verification of their particulars to receive July/August allowances seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

Speaking to TV3 in Accra on Monday, September 29, President of the National Service Personnel Association Vincent Ekow Assafuah said over 1,200 personnel in the Accra metropolis failed to meet the deadline of September 19.

“When you go to Nadowli in the Upper West Region, not even a single person has been able to receive an allowance,” Mr Assafuah said.

The exercise began on September 15.

After the exercise, which was undertaken by National Security in collaboration with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), 23 per cent of 2013/2014 personnel was unable to complete verification.

Mr Assafuah said the scheduled march will begin at the National Service Secretariat to the Ministry of Education.

“From there, if we do not hear any better thing, we have to move straight to the Flagstaff House to present our petition.”
