National service executive director tours farms

Dr Michel Kpessa-Whyte, Acting Executive Director, National Service Scheme, has visited Dawhenya and Nungua in the Greater Accra Region, to visit the maize, green house vegetable and poultry farms of the scheme.

Reverend George Gado, National Director of Projects told the director that the farm has maize harvester, Boom sprayer for spraying chemicals on the maize, Mahindra Tractor, Dual Purpose machine for planting maize and applying fertilizer, chisel harvester, combine harvester, corn dryers among other machines that were supplied by Export Trade, Agriculture and Industrial Development Fund.

He said the farm has 210 hectors of land under the project with about 86 hectors harvested and 20 service persons at post.

The vegetable farm has a seed bay where the seeds grow before they are transferred, while the livestock farm has 2,631 broilers, 2 500 range birds, Guinea fowl and other livestock.

Mr Emmanuel Dagbi, Farm Manager, said the farm has 4000 Layers and harvests 65 crates of eggs daily.

Dr Kpessa-Whyte congratulated the service personnel for accepting to work on the farms to contribute their quota towards production.

He urged the service persons to write proposals to the Youth Enterprise Support for get assistance for more business ventures.

Dr Kpessa-Whyte said the financial scandal that has engulfed the scheme could not affect the payment of monthly allowances to the service personnel.
