New Kwahu East District Assembly needs money to function - MP

Abetifi (E/R), April 28, GNA - The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Mr Eugene Attah Agyepong, has appealed to the Kwahu South District Assembly to release funds it pledged to the new Kwahu East Assembly to enable it to function efficiently. Mr Agyepong said only GH¢1,000 out of GH¢30,000 pledged by the Kwahu South Assembly had been received, adding that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development had not yet released funds to the new Assembly.

Addressing a special meeting of the Assembly at Abetifi at the weekend, Mr Agyepong said three vehicles passed on to the new Assembly by Kwahu South were not in good condition and have had to be sent to Kumasi for rehabilitation. Mr Agyepong said the Kwahu East Assembly lacked funds and could not buy furniture for its offices, adding that currently the District Co-ordinating Director, the District Finance Officer and the District

Engineer shared a common desk. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Afram Asiedu, urged the

Assembly members to support revenue collectors to enable them to raise

enough funds from tolls and rates for Assembly's activities. The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Nana Onini Afare II, called for

co-operation from Assembly members and other stakeholders in order to

move the district's development agenda forward. The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Samuel Donkor said markets in

the Assembly's jurisdiction would be rehabilitated to operate as major

revenue sources. He commended chiefs in the area for releasing buildings to the

Assembly to be used as offices.
