Obuasi (ASH), Aug. 10, GNA - A new seven-member executive body has been formed to manage the Obuasi Municipal Education Welfare Fund. It is to be managed in such a manner that the welfare needs of the teachers and non-teaching personnel will be met.
At the fund's seventh annual general meeting held at Obuasi, Mr S.A.B. Awuah, the Assistant Director in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development, was made the chairman with Mr Kofi Aboagye Agyeman, the headmaster of Boete JSS 'A' elected the vice-chairman. Other members were Mr Samuel Ababio, secretary, Mr Maxwell Kodua Barnie, assistant secretary, Madam Owusu Afrakomah, treasurer and Mr Joe Winful, trustee, Mr Joseph Kwame Appiah, the Municipal Guidance and Counselling Co-ordinator was elected the financial secretary. Mr Joseph K. Onyinah, the Municipal Director of Education, who sworn the new executive into office, charged them to accept the responsibility entrusted to them in good faith and to work very hard to win the confidence of all the members.
He made it clear that he was not happy about the way teachers' welfare issues were handled in the municipality, stressing that, "I feel unhappy when a teacher is bereaved or deceased and you do not feel teachers' presence at the funeral".
Mr Onyinah declared, "I am going to put pressure on the new executives to work to correct this anomaly".
The Municipal Director advised them to be sincere, transparent and accountable to the members, adding, "Try and work hard and with openness".
Mr Awuah on behalf of the executive accepted the challenge and gave the assurance that they would perform to push the fund forward. The chairman said they would ensure that all teachers and non-teachers in the service were covered by the fund. He, however, called for support from the members. 10 Aug. 06
