Nine schools in Salaga receive support

Nine schools at Janton in Salaga North on Thursday received educational materials worth GHc4, 600 from the Canada Christian Children’s Fund (CCFC), an NGO, to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The beneficiary schools, namely Kpandu, Daashee I, DaasheeII, Kanjeyili, Daboashie, Dakpemyili, Kpinchilla, Sakpalia and Vogyili Primary and Junior High Schools, were given different types of items including school uniforms, exercise books, dictionaries and chalk.

Mr William Anim-Dankwa, Communications Director of CCFC who presented the items said the donation was meant to complement government’s efforts towards encouraging formal education.

He said CCFC would continue to implement projects to reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of the less privilege.

Mr Anim-Dankwa appealed to parents to make the education of their wards a priority by providing their educational needs and helping them with home work. The Reverend Dr. Nabor Bugiri, Chairman of Northern Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana who received the items on behalf of the schools, thanked CCFC for the kind gesture.

“The CCFC has consistently supported pulp’s and teachers in the areas by sponsoring children to enroll in school and providing refreshers training for teachers”, he said.

Rev. Dr. Bugiri called on government to improve on the road network to the schools and also consider building teachers quarters to ensure children had more contact hours with teachers.

Mr Alhassan Mumuni, Member of Parliament for Salaga North, promised to appeal to the education Ministry to establish a Senior High School and three Vocational Schools in the area to absorb students who complete Junior High School.

He also advised members in the area to uphold and respect the district’s rule of making the first day of every month an environmental and sanitation day set aside to clean their environs.

“The time has come for us to realize the importance of good sanitation and gather ourselves to work towards ensuring clean environment as it was some time ago,” he said.
