Nkawkaw (E/R), Aug. 1, GNA- A large number of inhabitants at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region defied an early morning drizzling undertake a three-hour clean-up exercise to improve environmental sanitation in the town. They desilted chocked gutters, swept the main lorry park, streets, market and scrubbed the butchers shop.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after the exercise, the Chairman of the Council, Mr Osei Ameyaw, said since Nkawkaw had been chosen as the capital of the newly - Kwahu West District, there should be regular clean-ups in the town to ensure neatness. He said the MP for Nkawkaw, Mr Okerchiri Kobena Edusa, assisted the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Kwahu South District Assembly, provided water, refuse vehicles and sanitary tools for the exercise.
Mr Ameyaw advised the residents to avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse, polythene bags and water sachets. The Clerk of Council, Mr Benjamin Brako, advised the inhabitants to avoid dumping of solid and liquid wastes into gutters to avoid flooding when it rains.
