Nkoranza District Assembly constructs new school blocks

Abuontam (B/A), Sept. 8, GNA - The Nkoranza District Assembly is constructing school blocks for communities in need of them. Each three-unit classroom block is estimated at 200 million cedis and their construction is funded under the HIPC and the District Assembly Common Fund.

Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, District Chief Executive and Mr Kwabena Agyeman-Badu, District Director of Education on Wednesday inspected the projects and commended the quality work done.

The beneficiary communities are Dromankese, Fiema, Ayerede, Pinihe, Akropong, Ahyiayem and Asonkwaa.

A community clinic is also under construction at Boabeng-Fiema, home of the monkey sanctuary.

Two semi-detached bungalows are under construction at Nkoranza for four teachers at a time.

The Nkoranza District Assembly is also constructing area council offices at Nkoranza at a cost of 234 million cedis, as well as gari processing factories at Boana and Asuano.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi expressed satisfaction with the "better school accommodation being provided and I am hopeful that the poor standard of education in the district would be improved".

He however, appealed for new school buildings for Tankor, Nnipahiamoa and Tanfiano, saying the old ones were in deplorable conditions.

The DCE said the Assembly was committed to providing decent accommodation in all schools in the district to enhance teaching and learning.

Mr Agyeman-Badu said the education directorate was assisting in the renovation of dilapidated school buildings with funds from the Ghana Education Service.

He said a number of needy pupils from selected schools had been identified and would be provided with school uniforms, school bags and stationery to help retain them in school.

"Parents should invest in the education of their children by providing them with their basic school needs", the district education director added.

Meanwhile, the District Assembly has donated 50 bags of cement to the people of Abuontam towards the construction of the three-classroom block for the local Presbyterian kindergarten. 8 Sept. 04
