Nkoranza District Health Directorate fetes nurses

Nkoranza (B/A), Dec. 31, GNA - Mr Richard Hinneh, Nkoranza District Director of Health Services has called on nurses in the district to work hard to improve upon their services for a successful implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Mr Hinneh was addressing about 120 health workers on Tuesday at a Christmas Get-together organised by the District Health Directorate at Nkoranza.

He said with the introduction of the scheme, the people would be expecting better conditions of service from health workers at the health institutions and stressed the need for health workers to improve upon their relationship with their clients by handling them in a manner that would promote trust amongst them.

He announced that, there were plans for the Service to upgrade the clinics at Nkwabeng and Busunya both in the district to the status of Health Centres to enhance the development of the communities. Mr Hinneh complained that the district lacked adequate staffing and appealed to the Nkoranza District Assembly to arrange for a sponsorship package for the training of nurses and health aids, who would return to serve the district after their training.

The Assembly should also provide accommodation facilities for nurses to serve as encouragement for nurses to accept postings to the district.

The district director of the Service also expressed grave concern about maternal mortality in the area and advised pregnant women to attend clinics for the necessary directives to save their lives during delivery.

Mr Adjei Yeboah, Presiding Member of the Nkoranza District Assembly praised the district health directorate for organizing the party to take stock of their activities of the year, and to see how to improve upon their services to promote the health needs of people in the area. Dr Inneke Bossman, a senior medical officer at the Nkoranza Saint Theresa's Hospital, who chaired the occasion, commended the District Health Management Team (DHMT) for their good services in the year under review.
