Nkoranza Methodist Diocese holds second synod

Nkoranza (B/A) May 4 GNA- The Second Annual Synod of the Wenchi Methodist Diocese has begun at Nkoranza on the theme: "The Transforming Power of God's Word in Discipline". The Right Reverend Charles Kwesi Konadu, Bishop of the Diocese who opened the Synod said delegates would initiate a study on how to resolve the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the country. He said the synod would also evaluate traditional funeral rites and how to make them less expensive. Rt. Rev. Konadu explained that as the church was a stakeholder in national development, it was very crucial that religious leaders and their followers facilitate peace, unity and reconciliation, as a prerequisite for progress. He announced plans by the church to assist brilliant but poor students and initiate poverty alleviation project and HIV/AIDS awareness programme.

Rt. Rev. Konadu said a number of illiterate members in the Diocese were participating in a Functional Literacy Programme. Referring to the theme of the Synod, he urged Christians to live above reproach and allow the teachings of Jesus Christ to reflect in their lives. In a speech read on his behalf Nana Kwadwo Seinti asked religious leaders to pray for world peace and the conflict stricken West African sub-region.

The Diocese consists of about 18,000 members with 24 Ministers and 154 societies.
