Nkoranza (B/A), Jan 9, GNA - Members of the Nkoranza branch of the Society of the Physically Challenged Persons have congratulated Professor John Evans Atta Mills on his election as President of the Republic.
Mr Effah Guakro, president of the society who made the commendation on behalf of the society, expressed gratitude to the public for the discipline they exhibited during the general election. Addressing members at the first general meeting at Nkoranza, Mr Guakro urged the majority and minority members in Parliament to collaborate to initiate policies that would help improve the living conditions of Ghanaians. He paid special tribute to ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor for his hard work, selfless and dedicated services to the nation and also handing over peacefully to the NDC government. Mr Guakro stressed the need for the youth of the various political parties to bury their differences and regard themselves as one people, so that they could collectively contribute their quota towards national progress.
He appealed to President Mills to ensure that the Disability Council was inaugurated to ensure the effective implementation of the Disability Act. He suggested to the Administrator of the District Assemblies' Common Fund to create special accounts at district and municipal assemblies into which the society's share of the fund could be lodged. Mr Guakro cautioned members of the society against begging for alms on the streets and advised them to rather engage in income-generating ventures to enhance their living conditions. He said the craft production center for the society at Nkoranza was offering courses in leather works, dressmaking, batik, tie and dye printing, and electronics and urged members to take advantage and acquire skills in such vocations. 9 Jan. 09
