Nkroful commends government Kufuor

Nkroful (W/R), Jan. 18, GNA-The chief and people of Nkroful in the Nzema District of the Western Region have expressed gratitude to President John Agyekum Kufuor for the newly created Ellembelle District and locating the capital at Nkroful.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at separate interviews at Nkroful, Abusuakpanyinli Nyame Blay, who is currently acting as the chief of the town and the Assembly Member of Nkroful-Ellunlibo Electoral Area, Nana Burumia Twum Kwasi on behalf of the people of the town, said locating the district capital at Nkroful is "an honour to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah", Ghana's first President.

Abusuakpanyinli Nyame Blay appealed to sons and daughters of the area to contribute towards the viability of the district to enhance rapid development of the area.

He expressed concern about the mining activities of the Adamus Mining Resource Limited in the area and prayed that government re-considered its decision on the issue. Nana Burumia Twum Kwasi also expressed their gratitude to the honour done Dr. Nkrumah. He also said surface mining in the area would destroy the land.

Mr. Amo Kwaw, former Assembly Member for Nkroful-Ebanso Electoral Area said Nkroful used to be a District Capital in 1964 until its was joined with Axim district after the toppling of the first Republic in 1966.

He commended the President for restoring the past glory of Nkroful and thanked the government for that. The newly created Ellembelle District was carved out of the Nzema East District. 18 Jan. 08
