Begoro, July 29, GNA - The Ghana National Fire Service in the Fanteakwa District recorded no bush fire outbreak during the first half of this year.
The District Fire Officer, Mr Emmanuel Reginald Martey-Nai, said this in a speech read for him at a health personnel meeting at Begoro on Thursday.
He attributed this too intensified public education by his outfit and this year's rains.
Mr Martey-Nai said the service had started providing fire extinguishers and alarms to companies and institutions in the district. He complained about lack of logistics and said since the only fire tender for the district was taken to the regional headquarters sometime ago, the district office relied on a stand-by taxi for emergency cases. Meanwhile, the District Department of Social Welfare had embarked on an exercise to flush out illegal non-governmental organisations in the district.
The District Officer, Mr Kofi Apau-Yamoah, said it had come to his notice that most NGOs operate in the district without licence and that only six NGOS have registered with his outfit. He appealed to all NGOs in the district to register with the Department to enable his outfit monitor their operations.
