The Northern Regional Police Patrol Unit operates with only one vehicle which is a very huge challenge because it is the same vehicle used in the deployment of patrolmen for their shifts.

The Northern Commander of the Visibility Department, ASP Hannah Adjei told DAILY GUIDE that the only vehicle the unit has is used for visiting and monitoring of personnel at their various duty points adding that inadequate personnel also affects the unit’s activities in some parts of the areas in the region.

According to her, even though personnel of the unit have acclimatized to the weather, the scorching sun makes the uniforms fade so quickly hence may need more uniforms.

She indicated that the unit intends to collaborate with the public affairs department and other stakeholders to educate the general populace on personal safety and security and other important topics which will be useful in this electioneering year.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Obed Dzikunu, Director of National Patrol Department said since it is an election year, the unit needs to double its efforts in preserving and further improve the peace and security of the citizenry.

He cautioned personnel not to engage in partisan politics saying “police is a state institution and needs not engage in any partisan politics even though we all have the right to vote.”

Chief Superintendent Dzikunu urged the police personnel to serve Ghana to the best of their ability to make the nation a safe place in the sub-region.
