Nyakrom Wesley Methodist constructs bridge over River Pobee

Agona Nyakrom (C/R), Jan 8, GNA - The Nyakrom Wesley Methodist Church has constructed a bridge over River Pobee at the cost of 15 million cedis.

The construction of the bridge across the river in the middle of the town was to assist school children and church members especially the elderly to cross when it over follows its banks. Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Timothy Osam-Duodu, Presiding Member of Agona District Assembly, stressed the important role the Church and State should play to promote the socio-economic advancement of the people.

Mr Osam-Duodu who was also the former Vice President of Methodist Church Ghana, said the time had come for the two institutions to complement each other in the provision of social amenities to enhance the development of communities since the State alone could not ensure the health and education of the people, construct roads and provide the needs for human resource development.

He expressed the hope that the construction of the bridge would "increase the faith" of some members who could not attend Church regularly during the raining season.

The Very Reverend Emmanuel Churcher, in-charge of the Nyakrom Circuit, said the constitution of the Church enjoined its leaders and other stakeholders to assist communities they operated in. He stressed the commitment of the Church to support the people and appealed to those who criticised its activities to stop to promote peace and stability.

Rev Churcher said 83 million cedis had been spent for the rehabilitation electrical wiring and fitting of the Church building as part of a facelift and praised the Youth Fellowship for their role in the project.
