The headmistress of Our Lady of Providence Girls Senior High School in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region, Sister Regenamma Zangiti, has officially retired from the Ghana Education Service (GES) after 24 years of dedicated service.

In celebrating this milestone, a farewell ceremony in celebration of her remarkable contributions to both the school and the community was organised by the management of the school in her honour.

Attendees included Reverend Father Dr. Thomas Oppong Febiri, Vicar General of the Sunyani Diocese, the Bono Regional Director of Education, the Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive, members of CHASS, Nananom, clergy, staff, parents, members of the public, alumni, and students.

Speaking as the guest speaker, the Vicar General, Reverend Father Dr. Thomas Oppong Febiri, used the opportunity to extol the achievements of the outgoing headmistress, which have greatly transformed the school into a school of excellence and choice.

He praised her visionary leadership as the driving force behind the transformation of OLP Girls SHS, which was characterized by a relentless pursuit of excellence, an ethos that is now ingrained in the very fabric of the school as a lasting legacy and influence that would continue to linger on.

“Our Lady of Providence of Girls Senior High School has become a household name due to the remarkable service, leadership, devotion, and hard work of Sr. Regeenamma Zangiti. It is both fair and prudent to celebrate her while she is alive because a country that fails to honour its heroes is not worth dying for,” he said.

Other distinguished speakers equally took turns to reecho the impact of Sr. Regeenamma Zangiti in tremendously transforming the school and the strong connection she has built between the school and the community during her tenure as headmistress.

Delivering her farewell speech, Sr. Regeenamma Zangiti acknowledged the support of various individuals and organisations who encouraged her to achieve these remarkable heights.

“I would like to acknowledge some personalities who have been my backbone throughout my decade as headmistress because gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings,” she said.

Sr. Regeenamma recounted some of her most cherished memories by painting a vivid picture of her journey, which has made the school one of the best senior high schools in the country in the areas of academics, discipline, teacher quality, motivation, co-curricular activities, and community engagement, among others.

“When I took over as headmistress, I had a clear blueprint, and I devoted my effort, time, and resources to achieving it, and I am happy to say that within ten years, this dedication is evident in the progress the school has made," she added.

She, however, bemoaned that the school is bedeviled with several other challenges, such as inadequate staff accommodation, inadequate classrooms, a lack of access roads, and an unreliable water supply, which the new headmistress will need urgent support to address.

“Mr. Chairman, it is sad that despite our achievements over the years, there are still inadequate classrooms, inadequate staff bungalows, a lack of access roads, and the need for a bigger bus to convey students and staff to programs, and it is my utmost desire to see these challenges addressed imminently so that our esteemed institution can continue to excel and continue to maintain its status as one of the best senior high schools in the country and beyond,” she said.
