Obaa Papapaa Foundation, headed by a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Abrah has donated land (70×100 acres) to a group of blind musicians to assist them build a music center, office and housing complex to run their operations.

Members of the musical group, numbering about 25, together with others, were also enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by kind courtesy of the couple, who also hosted them to a buffet dinner.

The group, Royal Sparrows, was adjudged runners-up in TV3’s reality gospel show, ‘Celebration’, in January 2015.

Commenting on the gesture, moments after making the donation at their residence in Bortianor, a suburb of Accra, Evangelist Abrah said they were motivated by the splendid performance put up the visually impaired group in the TV3 reality show.

According to them, the donation was a way of expressing their appreciation to the group, noting that “the group could perform wonders” if they receive such assistance. He called on other philanthropists and organizations to come to the aid of the group to enable them realize their dreams in life and avoid depending on the society for a living.

A banker at the Bank of Ghana, who wanted to remain anonymous, also made a cash donation of GHc1,000 to the group. Leader and Founder of the group, Charles Oppong, commenting on the gesture, expressed his profound gratitude to the couple and the banker.

He appealed to other philanthropists, as well as the government, to assist them with musical instruments and a vehicle to aid their movements. “Without the assistance of the government and other philanthropists, we can’t build a musical center and offices to provide accommodation for our people.

At the moment, some of our people are still in school at Akuampem School for the Blind and the University of Cape Coast. “Government’s intervention will be much appreciated”, he stressed. He said with their talent, they would need the support of society in order to establish and integrate well into the society.

“You saw our performance at the TV3 reality gospel show. This shows that disability is not inability”, he added.
