Obuasi Municipal Assembly donates 500 desks to SHS

Obuasi, March 1, GNA - The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has presented 500 pieces of mono-desks valued at about GH¢20,000.00, in suppo= rt of the Christ the King Catholic (CKC) Senior High School (SHS) in Obuasi, with a call on the management and staff to help improve academic performance.

The donation was meant to help to address the acute furniture problem in the school. Mr John Alexander Ackon, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the assembly would continue to do its best to create the right conditions for effective teaching and learning, adding, 93Ours is to provide the infrastructure, yours is to maintain high academic standards." He said as part of the government's accelerated development progra= mme for SHS, CKC was benefiting from a number of projects funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET-Fund).

These included a six-unit classroom block, another 18-unit classroom block and a 600-capacity girls' dormitory. Mr Ackon admitted that the contractors working on the projects were facing financial problems but was quick to add that 93now that the Ministr= y of Finance has paid fully its indebtedness to the GET-Fund up to 2010, the situation would improve." He gave the assurance that the Assembly would do everything possible to ensure the completion of the projects. The MCE said he was not particularly happy with the academic performance of the Senior High Schools in the area and called for hard work among both students and teachers.

Mr Ahmed Owusu-Ansah, Headmaster of the school, said they were grateful to the Assembly for the donation. He promised that they would work harder to make the school rank among the leading schools in the country.
