Akim Oda, March 18, GNA - The Akim Oda District Branch of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has intensified its public educational campaign on the "tax stamp" with a meeting of the Akim Oda Traditional Cateress Association on Friday.
Addressing them, the Akim Oda District Director of the IRS, Miss Joana Mensah, explained that under the new tax system, they were to pay 50,000 cedis every three months as their income tax. He told them that in order to make it easier for them to pay their amount, it was decided that they make weekly payment through their association.
Miss Mensah explained that taxes were necessary to enable the government to generate the much-needed revenue to provide infrastructure such as schools, potable water, electricity and roads in the communities.
She warned that those who would default in payment would be prosecuted.
During an open forum, members of the association complained that sales were slow of late an appealed for reduction of the tax.
