Offuman wants to settle dispute through prayers

Offuman (B/A) April 22, GNA- The people of Offuman have declared Friday, April 23, a day of prayers and fasting to resolve a 11-year-old protracted chieftaincy dispute.

The chieftaincy problem was as a result of the death of the Omanhene of the Traditional Area and is pending before the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs.

The people took the decision at a meeting convened by the Assembly members for Dampaso and Abase, Mr Daniel Ofosu-Boamah and Mr Osei Ahiamah in efforts to resolve the dispute.

The meeting brought together the two factions, pastors of the Roman Catholic, Apostolic and Methodist Churches, opinion leaders including Mr Thomas Ahimah, 1987 National Best Farmer and Director of Offuman Agriculture Project, and kingmakers who constitute the Offuman Traditional Council.

Nine candidates absent at BECE

Akim Oda, April 20, GNA- Nine candidates of the on-going Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) were absent at two examination centres at Akim Oda since last Monday.

At Akim Oda St Francis Secondary/Technical School centre, the Acting Headmaster and Supervisor at the centre, Mr Dominic Acquah, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that out of 632 registered students from 16 schools, five of them, including three girls and two boys, were absent. He said the students were said to have travelled outside the country after registering for the examination.

At the Attafuah Secondary/Technical School centre, out of a total of 544 students from 15 schools who registered, four of them, a boy and three girls did not turn up.

Mrs Diana Akuamoah Boateng, the Supervisor, told the GNA that the students were said to have stopped schooling after registering for the examination. April 22 04
