Kukurantumi (E/R), June, 18, GNA - Two semi-detached houses costing GHC 41.7, 000 and funded by the Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) of the Ofori Panin Senior High School (SHS) at Kukurantumi were inaugurated on Thursday.
The Chairman of the PTA, Mr Ekow Mensah, said accommodation problem facing the school in recent times had been a major concern to the association and therefore would do everything possible to solve it. He said the association had started a similar project which would be completed early next year to be occupied by teachers. Mr Mensah said the recent announcement by the government of GHC 8 feeding fee per student per day was inadequate and urged the government to increase it as demanded by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), for the students to be well fed. He said looking at the recent economic situation in the country where interest rates and inflation kept on rising; that amount would not be able to feed a student for a day.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kwaku Kyei-Brobbey, commended the PTA on its contribution to the infrastructural development of the school over the years. He said the association had sponsored a number of projects which include provision of a girls' dormitory annex, a drainage system around the boys' dormitory and PTA rest room at the frontage of the school among others. Mr Kyei-Brobbey said with a student population of 1,630, it was improper for 70 percent of the staff to stay outside the campus because it does not augur well for academic excellence and good supervision. He said it had been a long vision of the school to house a greater number of its teachers, if not all, on campus.
