The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has denied reports claiming that a 62-year-old woman was arrested during the recent Democracy Hub demonstration in Accra.

A number of people were arrested during the protests after the demonstrators and police clashed.

The protests which were intended to express opposition to illegal mining, economic hardship, and other relevant national issues.

But, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah in a Facebook post on Monday, September 23, 2024, denied the claim that the said elderly woman was among those arrested describing the reports as false and misleading.

Nkansah clarified that although a number of people were arrested for blocking traffic and participating in illegal activities during the demonstration, no one who matched the 62-year-old woman's description was detained.

He said the elderly woman was rather accompanied by the cops in order to get an Uber ride.

Nkansah warned that the propagation of false reports could needlessly increase tensions between law enforcement and protestors, and he urged the public and the media to confirm information before publishing such contents.

"Kindly ignore the false narrative that a 62-year-old woman was arrested during the demonstration."

"When the protesters started getting violent, the woman was escorted out of the scene. She said she wanted an Uber to her destination and the Police assisted her," he posted.
