The Tarkwa Government Hospital recorded one birth on Christmas day as against seven births last year.
The only baby, a girl, was delivered without any complications and mother and baby are doing well, Miss Jocelyn Blay, a midwife, told the GNA in an interview.
Miss. Blay said because the Hospital had moved from its old place to Bogrekrom near Tarkwa most pregnant women visited private health facilities instead of traveling to the new hospital and this accoutered for the low births at the Hospital this year.
She appealed to all pregnant women to visit the Hospital regularly especially when their time is due to ensure safe delivery, adding “this is the only way maternal mortality can be reduced in the municipality and across the country.”
